The appointment will enable Liz Claiborne to utilize Carrara’s experience in both fields as former COO of Tommy Hilfiger’s North American business. It may also be more cost effective than appointing two functional heads.

Liz Claiborne is in the midst of a multi-year restructuring that involves reduction of debt, brand rationalization, and a revamped focus on brands with potential, such as Juicy Couture and Kate Spade. The company’s last holiday quarter was disappointing, with sales coming in well below expectations.
