Exxon Mobil’s (NYSE:XOM) fourth quarter profits at the upstream unit, which produces oil and natural gas, are up 18% which have been helped by higher prices. But the downstream unit, which makes engine lubricant is down 13%. The chemical unit, which makes plastics and related products, has hit bottom going down 49%. Earnings were down after breaking out $810 million gains from asset sales, Edward Jones says, and results were “mediocre”.

Entergy (NYSE:ETR) drops after its fourth quarter revenue misses the mark. Earnings fell 31% year-over-year amid a prior-year gain. The company also reported lower revenue as milder weather reduced electricity demand.

Claymore/MAC Global Solar Index (NYSE:TAN) could see German subsidy cuts arrive by April as solar stocks are heading lower. Chinese names are among the biggest losers: ReneSola Ltd. (NYSE:SOL), China Sunergy Co Ltd. (NASDAQ:CSUN), Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ) and Trina Solar Limited (NYSE:TSL).

Hess Corp. (NYSE:HES) sees some insider buying. After CEO John Hess gobbles up 91,000 more shares, he brought his stake in the company to over $22 million.

BP Plc. (NYSE:BP) can’t make Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) pay part of the $40 billion in cleanup costs and economic damages that are owed on account of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, rules a federal judge. However, any punitive damage awards made against Halliburton does not have to be paid by BP. BP must also indemnify Transocean (NYSE:RIG) against damage claims.

EQT (NYSE:EQT) gains from an upgrade to Hold on valuation at Canaccord. The reasons for the Hold are higher gas price realization, a greater liquids composition and refinements to midstream margins.
