Motorola Mobility (NYSE:MMI) was denied an injunction it won in December against Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) by the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court today. The injunction would have forced Apple to pull its iPads and iPhones off the shelves in Germany, but was blocked by the German appeals court on the grounds that the licensing terms Apple offered to Motorola were reasonable.

Motorola will be in breach of antitrust regulations if it continues to ask for royalties on every iPhone sale in Germany. The ruling is a huge victory for Apple and deals a devastating blow to Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), Motorola Mobility’s new owner. The ruling affects Google’s legal strategy of seeking injunctive relief based on standards-essential patents, and exposes unfairness on the part of Motorola to seek royalties on standards-essential patents.
