Spotify Gets New Features and a New Look
If you’re a Spotify user, you might want to keep an eye out for some changes to the look of the app in the near future. Today the music streaming behemoth has begun rolling out updates to its apps that give them a new, much darker look, plus a couple of tweaked features.
The app updates began appearing this morning. In a press release, Spotify says the updates “will roll out gradually to [its] iPhone, desktop and web users from today, and will soon be available across all platforms,” including Android.
The most noticeable change is that the background throughout the entire app is now black, which replaces the gray that was previously in place. This app-wide background makes the different sections of the app feel more uniform, and also helps highlight the album cover art. They’ve also tweaked the font and rounded many of the buttons and images to create a more modern interface.
According to the press release, the “new dark theme and refined interface lets the content come forward and ‘pop’, just like in a cinema when you dim the lights.”
But the changes are more than just skin-deep. They’ve also updated the “Browse” section, and the biggest addition to the service feature-wise is a new “Your Music” section, which gives you better control over how you organize the tracks you’ve starred. Now it’s simpler to view your music by groupings of songs, albums, or artists.
