Apple TV 6.1 Update Includes This User-Friendly Feature
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) issued a new Apple TV software update alongside its long-awaited iOS 7.1 mobile operating system update on Monday. As noted by MacRumors, the Apple TV 6.1 update includes an improved home screen customization feature that many users have long requested. As Apple continues to gain additional apps and content for the Apple TV, the main screen has gotten progressively more crowded with icons. It should be noted that new app icons appear on the Apple TV’s main screen whether or not they are wanted by the user.
Although Apple TV users already had the ability hide icons via the Parental Controls menu, the new feature streamlines the process. Now users can arrange or hide icons directly from the main screen without having to access the device’s Parental Controls menu.
In order to take advantage of this new feature, simply select the icon you wish to move from the main screen with the Apple TV remote and hold down the Select button. After the icon starts to jiggle, you will be able to move the icon around the screen using the directional control buttons. Pushing the Play/Pause button gives you the option to hide the icon. This new feature allows you to clear your main screen of any unwanted app icons.
While the recently released Apple TV 6.1 update only features minor changes to the Apple TV’s software, the California-based company is rumored to be developing a successor to the current device that will feature a completely revamped operating system. According to insider sources cited by 9to5Mac, the new Apple TV product may include new types of content and its own App Store.
