It’s Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) big day. After massive amounts of rumor and speculation, the new iPhone is officially revealed, and along with it iOS 6. The new Apple OS is hitting the mobile market September 19, in the wake of Nokia’s (NYSE:NOK) Lumia Windows 8 Phone announcement.

Among the hundreds of new features, Siri is getting a major upgrade. The voice command function will be able to tell you sports scores, recommend movies, tell you which restaurants have open tables, and even post to Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter. Users can even like apps and songs in the App Store and iTunes. Advanced navigation capability, one of Android’s major selling points over Apple, is being challenged with upgraded maps with 3D imaging, turn-by-turn directions, and real-time traffic. Other features include Passbook, Apple’s take at a digital wallet, and FaceTime, which enables video calls.
This new iOS will compete against Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone 8 and Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating systems.
