Windows 8 App Count, Zynga’s User Losses: Tech Business Update

Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows 8 operating system has more than 35,000 applications in its Store, says the tracking website MetroStore Scanner. The total number, 35,167, marks a growth of 14,557 during the past 35 days, implying that Windows 8 is accreting applications to its platform at a rate of approximately 415 per day, compared to early November, when the OS was adding 362 applications per day. Of the 35,167 applications, in excess of 22,000 are available in the United States market.

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has been requested by copyright holders to remove 51,395,353 links to infringing webpages over the past 12 months, which marks a serious jump, when compared to past years. Presently, the firm processes half a million “infringing” links per day, and the figure is growing weekly, while Hollywood and the major record labels want Google to increase its anti-piracy endeavors. Along with several other websites on the Internet, Google is obliged to remove infringing content upon receipt of a valid DMCA request from copyright holders.

During the last weeks of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) first fiscal quarter of 2013, which ends on Saturday eleven analysts lowered their targets on the shares; with the average of the 48 polled at $740, which is $232 above the stock’s closing price on Friday.

Zynga (NASDAQ:ZNGA) has lost about 23 million users in about 20 days, says AppData, which measures metrics and trends for various applications, which added that presently, Zynga has 270.8 million monthly active users, but on December 7th, it had 293.9 million. The firm has seen this trend for some time now, and its shares have lost in excess of 74 percent of their value in 2012; if this rate continues, Zynga will experience losses of one million users per day.
