Samsung (SSNLF.PK) can’t catch a break against Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the court of law. The Korean company has been told by a German court that its mobile device accessibility patent-infringement case against the iPhone maker cannot proceed just yet.
A Mannheim regional court on Friday ordered a stay on the lawsuit that alleges the iPhone maker’s VoiceOver screen access technology violated Samsung’s patent on converting display into speech data. The VoiceOver function can be used by users with low or no vision to hear a description of what appears on the iPhone display. It also allows the phone to be operated through Braille-based add-on software.
Samsung said it owned the patent for the technology to press a button to make the handset describe its display. However, judge Andreas Voss told the Korean company it was unlikely the country’s federal patent court would accept its assertion of Apple violating the patent based on just this assertion.
As FOSS Patents pointed out, both Apple and Samsung have until now been fairly unsuccessful with their assertions against each other in Mannheim, where some of their cases were dismissed and even greater number got stayed…
