Will McDonald’s Sales Drop Put Off These Top Institutional Shareholders?

McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) released its sales report for January 2013, which reveals that global comparable sales saw a drop of 1.9 percent during the month. The Asia Pacific Middle East Africa (APMEA) segment revealed a drop of 9.5 percent, Europe dropped 2.1 percent, and the US rose by 0.9 percent. The main reasons for the decline in APMEA are the ongoing weakness in Japan along with a drop in China resulting from the supply chain contamination issue and the timing of the Chinese New Year. Weakness in Germany, France, and some other markets was the main reason the decline in Europe. Growth in US comp sales is due to a balance between the company’s premium, core and compelling value options, and the addition of the new Grilled Onion Cheddar burger to the Dollar Menu.

These institutional firms indicated owning shares of McDonald’s in Q4 2012. They reported owning a total of 654.784 million shares on 12/31/2012. The shares closed at $87.50 on 12/31/2012.
