BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) surprised Wall Street as it had a surge in profit during the fourth quarter, and the deeper rollout of its Z10 smartphone will begin this week in the U.S. According to the company, it shipped 6 million smartphones during the last quarter, including 1 million devices using its critical BlackBerry 10 operating system. Last week, BlackBerry launched its Z10 touchscreen smartphone in the U.S. for AT&T (NYSE:T). Additionally, the device is now available on the T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless  (NYSE:VZ) networks. BlackBerry President and CEO Thorsten Heins stated that the demand for the Z10 has been “better than expected,” and he adds that 55 percent of the smartphone’s global customers are coming from outside platforms.
