Aereo is the web television startup that is backed by media mogul Barry Diller, and it has discussed partnerships with major pay-TV distributors and Internet service providers, including AT&T (NYSE:T) and Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH) as it attempt to to roll out its fledgling service to more markets, The Wall Street Journal reported. Aereo streams local TV broadcast signals over the web for a fee, and it is currently only available in the New York City region. It is possible that it may expand its reach significantly if it joins forces with cable, satellite, or phone concerns. Discussions between Aereo and telecom operators have not come to any agreements. A big issue that is being considered is the legal uncertainty surrounding the startup. Aereo has been battling a suit by broadcasters, claiming that Areo is violating copyright law, partially because it it reformats and retransmits their signals without permission. It then charges a fee to its subscribers.
