Will Apple’s iWatch Be a Dud?

“Personally, I don’t believe it’s the next revolution,” said Swatch (SWGAY.PK) CEO Nick Hayek at a press conference on the company’s annual results, covered by Bloomberg. “Replacing an iPhone with an interactive terminal on your wrist is difficult. You can’t have an immense display.”

As the publication reported last month, sources familiar with Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) operations revealed that the company has a team of 100 product designers working on wristwatch-like device that will be able to serve as a stand in for an iPhone or an iPad, with the ability to execute some of the devices’ more-basic functions. Of course, the Apple rumor mill has snatched up this hint and generated a growing buzz around the possibility of an iWatch. With Apple’s signature use of taxonomy to help brand its products, what other name could such a device possibly have.

But Hayek, the head of the largest Swiss watchmaker, has questioned its functionality, at least in terms of his company’s focus…
