The next-generation iPhone may not be the only device Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is launching today. The company is also rumored to be announcing a new iPod touch that will include several standout features, including a dedicated GPS receiver, a high-definition FaceTime camera, and a 4-inch in-cell touchscreen. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new music player will also come in different colors other than black and white, similar to those offered by the company for the iPod nano and iPod shuffle.
Don’t Miss: Will Apple Throw In This SURPRISE New iPhone Feature?
The inclusion of a GPS will help Apple offer better support for its new Maps app, set to release alongside iOS 6. The high-definition front camera will be accompanied by a thinner, lower-resolution rear camera. According to the analyst, the device is also likely to have an in-cell touch panel that will help the new iPod shed weight and width. It is expected to be 10 to 20 percent thinner than the current version, going down to 6 to 6.5 millimeters, and weigh less than 100 grams, Kuo said.
According to the analyst, it will have the iPad 2’s A5 processor and feature the rumored new 9-pin dock connector of the new iPhone. The music player may also add compatibility with other Apple devices, such as the Mac or iPad, and work like a game controller.
