Why is This Apple Device Off the Market?

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has officially pulled the Mac Pro desktop from its online outlets in Europe to address the region’s new safety regulations. The company’s online stores in the European Union, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland show all three versions of the Mac Pro as being currently unavailable.

9To5Mac said Apple’s internal memo about the discontinuation last month had said resellers could sell remaining inventory until March 1, but the company appears to have taken action in its own store early.

Apple had informed European retailers and distributors last month that it intended to stop selling the device due to new safety regulations. The regulations affect 27 countries in the European Union, but won’t have an impact on the availability of the device outside of the region.

In a media statement released last month, Apple had said that new EU regulations related to the large fans within the device, which are unprotected. The amendment necessitate fan guards and increased protection on the ports on the electrical system, it said. “The Mac Pro met the previous standards prior to the amendment 1 addition. Obviously it’s a very safe and very reliable product,” the company added in the statement…
