Research indicates that around 8 million children, or 1 of 20 in the United States, get migraines, but two studies show that medicines to prevent or treat migraines in adults are not effective in children, according to Bloomberg. An analysis of 21 trials published in JAMA Pediatrics indicated that Johnson and Johnson’s seizure medicine Topamax and the antidepressant trazodone show limited evidence to support use in children’s migraines occurring fewer than 15 times a month and that other drugs, among which include some meds for hypertension, are no better than a placebo.
