Vodafone Exec Hops Ship for Starbucks and 4 Telecom Titans Attracting Interest

AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T): On Tuesday, thee Supreme Court refused to hear a lawsuit against AT&T for assisting the National Security Agency in monitoring its customers’ phone calls and Internet traffic. In 2006, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation sued AT&T following the testimony of a former company technician, Mark Klein, stating that AT&T worked extensively with the NSA for the implementation of a vast warrant-less wiretapping program.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S): An outage that cutting phone and data service to Sprint customers in areas of California, Oregon, and Washington also had an effect on Alaska Airlines passengers Monday when the air carrier’s reservations system was knocked off line. Crystal Davis, who is a Sprint Nextel Corp spokesperson, claims that the outages are due to two cuts in the company’s fibre optic cable network. According to Davis, the company restored service to those affected by 4.30 PM ET, and she adds that Alaska Airlines service was restored by 3 PM ET,  Monday.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) seems to be preparing a version of Nokia’s (NYSE:NOK) Lumia 920, with the codename “Atlas”.

Vodafone Group plc (NASDAQ:VOD): Vodafone’s UK director of brand marketing Danielle Crook has now been appointed to her new role as Starbucks’ vice president of marketing and category for EMEA.

MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE:PCS): According to a top T-Mobile USA executive, there is not a possible deal between Sprint Nextel (NYSE” target=_blank>NYSE:S) and MetroPCS (NYSE” target=_blank>NYSE:PCS) due to the fact that it would likely bring about a new network mess for Sprint. Recently, rumors have been surfacing claiming that Sprint could be taking a counterbid into consideration as a means to try and outmaneuver Deutsche Telekom as it tries to have T-Mobile swallow MetroPCS.
