US Airways Pursues American Airlines, Hawaii Ruling Benefits Online Travel Sites: Consumer Biz Wrap

US Airways (NYSE:LCC) will pursue the acquisition of American Airlines (AAMRQ.PK) without the okay of the carrier’s management if need be, says the Allied Pilots Association. A message sent by the union to pilots on Monday night advises that an “alternate strategy” is being worked out.

Expedia (NASDAQ:EXPE), Orbitz Worldwide (NYSE:OWW), and Priceline.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:PCLN) should benefit directly from a ruling by a judge in Hawaii which says that online travel sites will not have to pay state hotel room tax for a period between 1999 and 2011. The decision could save the firms as much as $700 million in back costs.
