Shares of Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) poked more than 6 percent higher this morning. Last night, Zuckerberg took center stage at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco, a conference held for developers, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. He provided hope to investors by highlighting positive results in mobile. “What we are seeing already, even with the early mobile ads that we have, is that they are performing even better than the right hand column ads on desktop…there’s a huge opportunity,” Zuckerberg said.
American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO) shares gained 2.95 percent. The clothing retailer announced that its board declared a special cash dividend of $1.50 per share, in addition to a regular quarterly dividend of 11 cents per share. Robert Hanson, chief executive officer stated, “The special cash dividend is a component of our capital allocation plan, which balances continued investment in our business with top tier shareholder returns.” Retail competitors such as Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE:ANF) declined while Gap (NYSE:GPS) traded higher.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares edged slightly higher ahead of its special event that is expected to unveil the new iPhone. The tech giant’s online store is currently closed with a message reading, “We’ll be back. We’re busy updating the Apple Store for you and will be back soon.”
Shares of Coffee Holding Company (NASDAQ:JVA) surged 18.53 percent this morning. The company reported financial results for the three months ended July 31. Sales growth jumped 24 percent, while net income came in at 19 cents per share, compared to 3 cents per share a year earlier. “We are pleased to report this quarter’s results to our shareholder base as we overcame many obstacles to achieve strong results during the past ninety days. Despite substantially lower commodity prices, we were still able to increase our revenues by 24 percent over the same period from last year,” explained Andrew Gordon, chief executive officer.

Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. (NASDAQ:ONCY) has conducted an internal analysis of the blinded combined clinical data for all 80 patients who are currently enrolled in the initial stage of the study. The study continues to be blinded currently, and at the time of the analysis, 23 patients of the 80 had not shown progression yet but were continued to be included for the purposes of analysis. The median evolving progression free survival of the 80 patients was better than previously predicted, as was the ideal response rate. Additionally, it was observed that patients for whom only metastatic disease had been measured by clinicians, responded differently to treatment than the patients who suffered from local regional head and neck disease. Patients in whom only metastatic disease was measured had a median evolving PFS of 120 days, statistically much greater than the patients with a noted local regional head and neck tumor. Shares of Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. are trading 18.44% lower today.

Mediware Info. Systems (NASDAQ:MEDW) announced it entered into a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by top private equity investment firm Thoma Bravo, LLC in a transaction which has a value of about $195 million. Beneath the agreement’s terms, pending shareholder approval, Mediware shareholders are to gain $22 in cash for each share of Mediware common stock. This is a premium of about 40 percent over the most recent closing price of the company. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, which includes requisite regulatory approvals and the approval of Mediware shareholders. The agreement has been unanimously approved by the Mediware board of directors, who continues to recommend that Mediware’s shareholders approve the transaction. The transaction is not subject to a financing condition, and Mediware predicts that the transaction will close prior to Dec. 31, 2012. Thoma Bravo is to acquire 100 percent of Mediware’s outstanding shares at closing. Shares of Mediware Info. Systems are trading 39.11% higher today.
AU Optronics Corp. (NYSE:AUO): The U.S. requested that a federal court to slap a $1 billion fine on Taiwan’s AU Optronics in regards to the repair of prices of liquid crystal display panels, according to court documents, and reports Reuters. Additionally, the government also requested that the court sentence company executives, H.B. Chen and Hui Hsiung, to 10 years in prison along with fines totaling about $1 million, according to the documents. Shares of AU Optronics Corp. are trading 3.04% higher today.

Shares of Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. are trading 0.88% higher today.
Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM): Toyota is in the process of a change to it’s tagline for the first time since 2004. The new tagline will be “Let’s Go Places,” and it will take the place of the former slogan, “Moving Forward.” The effort started from six roster shops: Saatchi & Saatchi, Dentsu America, Conill, Burrell, Intertrend and Grieco Research, reports Ad Age. Shares of Toyota Motor Corporation are trading 0.84% higher today.
Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE:CLF): A rising amount of coal-fired plants constructed to run 24/7 may now only run occasionally due to soft electricity demand along with competition from gas-fired plants which are are less expensive and cleaner to operate, according to the Wall Street Journal. Shares of GMAC LLC are trading 2.25% lower today.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): Foxconn Technology Group, who is a main manufacturing partner with Apple, admitted the use of students on assembly lines for the iPhone. However, the company denied Chinese media reports claiming that it forced vocational students to work at its factories, The Los Angeles Times reports. Shares of Apple Inc. are trading 0.18% higher today.

Franco-Nevada Corporation (NYSE:FNV): UBS believes that precious metal equities are going to benefit and they raised their price targets in the gold sector by 12% and in the silver sector by 18%. However, three companies, Franco-Nevada Corp., Royal Gold Inc. and Hecla Mining Co., have been downgraded.

Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNSS): After the company said that they are expanding a study of their cancer drug, Vosaroxin, shares of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals Inc. increased. Sunesis said they are adding 225 more patients for a total of 665 to a late-stage trial design which will test Vosaroxin as a treatment for acute Myeloid Leukemia in patients who have not responded well to one previous treatment. Sunesis said that the expansion was recommended by a committee of independent monitors who had reviewed early results from the trial.
Vanguard Natural Resources, LLC (NYSE:VNR): Vanguard Natural Resources LLC (NYSE:VNR) offered six million of their common units priced at a 4% discount and representing limited liability company interests. The oil and gas exploration company’s units were down 4.4% at $27.40 in recent pre-market trading, this is below the offer price of $27.51 each. However, the units are up 3.7% this year.
Sterling Bancorp (NYSE:STL): Sterling Bancorp (NYSE:STL) has an annual dividend yield of 3.61%. The stock has traded between $6.65 and $10.25 in the last 12-months. Their market capitalization is now at $307.93 million. STL operates as a bank holding company for Sterling National Bank and provides a range of banking as well as financial products and services in the United States, primarily in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Office Depot (NYSE:ODP): Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE:ODP), a leading global provider of office supplies and services, and the Office Depot Foundation announced that Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet in the NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series, will join the Foundation and donate 6,000 new sackpacks to non-profit organizations, schools, and agencies in and around the Chicago area.

Though trials for Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) and Johnson & Johnson’s (NYSE:JNJ) new Alzheimer’s drug bapineuzumab were halted at the end of August for failing to slow cognitive decline, a new study has shown that the experimental drug could reduce physical damage in the brain.
Many in the medical field believe that trial results so far have been weak. However, with positive results from upcoming trials, drugs that slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease could create a $20 billion market, according to Deutsche Bank analyst Barbara Ryan in a June note to clients.
