TiVo Patent Battle Heats Up

TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO) filed a counterclaim Monday morning against Motorola (NYSE:MMI) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) for infringing three patents after MMI initiated a suit against TiVo in 2011.

The 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission covers three patents:

  • Patent #7,529,465: “System for time shifting multimedia content streams”
  • Patent #6,792,195: “Method and apparatus implementing random access and time-based functions on a continuous stream of formatted digital data”

The suit was filed in a federal court in Texas. TiVo shares closed the day up 0.66 percent to $12.17 after topping $12.37 in morning trading.
