Time Warner Cable Loves Kobe Bryant’s Fans

Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC) has signed a deal with Cox Communicationsin an effort to widen its reach, giving the latter’s subscribers in Southern California access to LA Lakers’ games. Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Cable Deportes will be carried forward in time for the Lakers game this month. They will broadcast 70 Lakers games this season and subscribers will have to pay $3.95 per month for the two channels, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Cox Cable has about 1.2 million subscribers in Southern California — and the Lakers are a huge draw for SoCal sports fans. Cox is the third-largest pay-TV distributor in the region. Time Warner Cable, which has 2.3 million subscribers in the region and DirecTV (NASDAQ:DTV), which has 1.7 million subcribers.

It should be noted that TWC has signed a number of deals with other major networks but yet to close an agreement with Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH), Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) and DirecTV.
