This Could Spell Doom for Laptops
A Barclays survey found that of 100 CIOs, 76 of them said they’ve already issued tablets or are testing them at their companies.
Sixty-five of those polled are from the U.S., while 35 are based in Europe. The executives come from varied industries.
The news comes as a blow to the PC industry, as 40 percent said the tablets they purchased would replace laptops.
With 93 percent noting some level of interest in the devices, the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad was certainly most popular tablet, with over 80 percent of CIOs saying they would support it. Coming in second were Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android tablets, which held just above 40 percent of their interest.
“Apple was the vendor most often cited, but there was also interest in Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Android tablets as well,” Barclays analyst Ben Reitzes said. “We believe that given Apple’s strength in the smartphone and tablet markets, the company is seeing higher rates of adoption in the enterprise market as a result of the BYOD trend.
