Apple’s iPad Mini Has A New Timetable

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to start delivering cellular versions of its iPad mini on November 23,with that date being supplied to several U.S. users who placed their pre-orders for the tablet Friday. The company had previously only given a “mid-November” shipping target for that specific version of its brand new tablet. AT&T (NYSE:T), Verizon (NYSE:VZ), and Sprint (NYSE:S)  will offer the iPad mini on their respective LTE networks in the U.S.

Wi-Fi versions of the tablet, which was only opened for pre-orders at 12 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday on the company’s online store, began seeing delays in shipping estimates just a few minutes into start of sales. The delivery time of the Wi-Fi white-silver model of the device was changed to be available to ship in 2 weeks, though the black model was still listed as available for delivery by November 2.

Apple unveiled the tablet earlier this week along with an upgrade for the full-sized iPad. The iPad mini sports a 7.9-inch screen with the display pixel configuration similar to that of the iPad 2 and starts at $329.

Speaking at the post-earnings conference call with analysts on Thursday, Apple again stressed that it had designed the tablet as a premium device. “When we set up the bill for the iPad Mini, we didn’t setup the bill for a small cheap tablet,” said Apple chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer. “We set up the bill of the smaller iPad that offers the full iPad experience, as our customers would expect. As a result, the difference between the iPad mini and the competition is profound.”
