Tech Biz Recap: Apple Continues Samsung ASSAULT, Intel & Others INVEST In ASML

Exercising its newly-won powers, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will seek bans in the United States on 8 Samsung (SSNLF.PK) smartphones, according to Bloomberg. The devices include the Epic 4G, and four Galaxy S II models, but niether the Galaxy S III nor the Galaxy Nexus. The S III was introduced too late to be included in Apple’s lawsuit, so an injunction request might require yet more legal action. The term ‘jury fatigue’ comes to mind.

Samsung has joined Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (NYSE:TSM) in buying stakes in the Dutch chip-equipment producer ASML. The former will provide ASML with €276 million for research and development; ASML has with this new stake raised €1.38 billion from the three chipmakers for that purpose. In addition, Samsung is acquiring a 3 percent investment in ASML for €503 million, which raises the total customer equity investment to €3.85 billion.
