Today the energy sector (NYSE:XLE) moved lower as a whole, with major components Chevron (NYSE:CVX) and Exxon-Mobil (NYSE:XOM) underperforming more than the sector’s average, contributing to a dip in the DJIA (NYSE:DIA) by the closing bell. Among the sector’s major benchmarks, the NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI) fell -0.21%, while the NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index (XNG) dropped off -0.35%, and the Philadelphia Oil Service Index (OSX) slipped -0.16%.

The day’s winners among energy stocks were Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) up 1.19%, BP plc (NYSE:BP) up 1.23%, and Marathon Oil Corp. (NYSE:MRO) up 1.47%. Among the biggest losers were ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) down -0.94%, and Total S.A. (NYSE:TOT) down -0.70%.
Other movers were Baker-Hughes Inc. (NYSE:BHI), reporting second quarter earnings that topped expectations in terms of both EPS and revenues, sending the stock up 0.05% on the day. NRG Energy (NYSE:NRG) also got a sizable bump (up 2.67%) when Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) analysts upgraded the stock to a buy.
