Steve Jobs Will Be Heard in Apple’s E-Book Case

Walter Isaacson, the author of Steve Jobs’ biography, has been subpoenaed by plaintiffs suing Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) over e-book price-fixing claims for his recordings of interviews with the late co-founder of the company. Lawyers say they need the recordings and other notes from interviews to help prove their case.

“Mr. Isaacson conducted numerous interviews during the time Mr. Jobs was involved in negotiating Apple’s entry into the e-book market,” Steve Berman, a lawyer for the group suing Apple, wrote in a letter to U.S. District Judge Denise Cote. “Mr. Jobs discussed Apple’s e-book strategy and negotiations with Mr. Isaacson.”

The U.S. government, as well as 15 states and Puerto Rico, are suing Apple and five book publishers on allegations that they colluded to fix prices of e-books. The government said Apple and the five publishers were unhappy that Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) was driving down the price of e-books. Hachette, HarperCollins (NASDAQ:NWSA), and Simon & Schuster (NYSE:CBS) agreed to the government’s terms to avoid litigation, while Macmillan and Penguin (NYSE:PSO) are still fighting.

“The plaintiff may renew its application when it can show that it meets the test for disclosure of non-confidential material,” Cote said in a one-sentence order.
