SPX Top Bidder for Gardner Denver, Berkshire Hathaway’s DaVita Stake: Merger and Acquisitions Recap

Knowledgeable sources put SPX Corporation (NYSE:SPW) as the front-runner in the auction of industrial-pumps maker Gardner Denver (NYSE:GDI), with the parties now entering into one-on-one discussions to work out a deal. A number of private-equity firms had made bids for Gardner Denver last week, but have now been told to wait on the sidelines as negotiations progress.

Since September 2011, Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRKA)(NYSE:BRKB) has been buying around 1 million shares per month of dialysis-center operator DaVita HealthCare Partners (NYSE:DVA), placing the position as among the company’s dozen largest, as it has accumulated some 13.6 million shares or about 13 percent of DaVita, according to regulatory filings. The position is valued at approximately $1.45 billion.
