Sony & Netflix Make PlayStation Deal, Apple Extends iTunes Store: Consumer Business Recap

Sony Computer Entertainment America (NYSE:SNE) and Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) reported on Tuesday the PlayStation3 computer entertainment system is now the main development platform for Netflix and is the most popular device in the world for viewing movies and television shows from Netflix on a TV. Earlier in 2012, PlayStation and Netflix expanded their partnership by providing the Netflix experience to PlayStation Vita in the United States. Owners of PlayStation 3 can begin watching a movie or TV show on Netflix, pause it, and then continue watching on PS Vita’s 5-inch high-def AMOLED screen.

Amazon.com’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) owned and operated video-on-demand streaming service in the United Kingdom, LoveFilm, makes an arrangement with Nintendo’s (NTDOY.PK) Wii home console so as to offer gamers access to such movies as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and TV shows like Downton Abbey. In addition, LoveFilm will debut on Nintendo’s new high definition home console Wii U “shortly,” according to the company.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has expanded its signature iTunes Store into 56 more countries on Tuesday, including India, Russia, South Africa and Turkey in a move that almost doubles its geographical reach. Now, music fans can to choose from 20 million songs, including those from the many artists which are popular in individual countries, along with songs by international stars, according to Apple.
