Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F): The U.S. has filed a complaint against China on new duties the country is levying on U.S.-made automobiles and trucks, according to the New York Times. Auto sales in Canada were impressive in June, prompted by strong demand for imports. Although the 2.8 percent Y/Y rise to 169,459 autos and trucks sold was not overwhelming in terms of growth, this comes in the wake of a difficult comparable from 2011 when auto manufacturers were filling the market with incentives. The Canadian unit of Ford is the primary auto retailer in the region. Ford is planned to bring up an insider to take over for Alan Mulally when he retires in coming years, with early bets on regional heads Mark Fields, Stephen Odell and Joe Hinrichs.
Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) has bounced back impressively this year as company shares have improved almost 50 percent year-to-date. “They have, in our view, taken bankruptcy off the table for the next several years at least,” said Christopher King, analyst of telecom and cable services at Stifel Nicolaus. “So that’s helped buoy the stock.”
