Services Sector Review: Amazon’s New Product, Comcast Pressures DirecTV

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. (NASDAQ:RRD) says some customers deferred or canceled anticipated activity, and says the number and volume of the programs that they pulled back on was significantly more than forecast. Comments made on the Q4 earnings conference call.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT): Two people have been shot at a Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) distribution center in central Virginia, reported Associated Press, citing a local fire department spokeswoman.

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX): While DirecTV (NASDAQ:DTV) CEO Michael White hints that new digital services are coming, the pressure is rising to act quickly as Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) jumps in, reports the Wall Street Journal. Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH) has video streaming services and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is bulking up its service, as they all take aim at Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX).

The shares closed at $112.40, down $5, or 4.26%, on the day. Its market capitalization is $6.23 billion.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG): Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt joined with attorneys general from 30 other states and 5 territories in asking Google to revise its new privacy policy to better protect the personal data of its users. In a letter to Google CEO Larry Page, the attorneys general expressed several concerns with the new privacy policy, especially the sharing of users’ data between Google services.

The shares closed at $607.94, down $6.06, or 0.99%, on the day. Its market capitalization is $197.66 billion.

(NASDAQ:AMZN): Amazon Web Services LLC, or AWS, an Amazon.com company, introduced Amazon Simple Workflow Service, or Amazon SWF, a workflow service for building scalable, resilient applications.
