Seagate to Buy Factory and 4 Chip and Big Data Stocks on the Move
Broadcom Corp. (NASDAQ:BRCM) stated that it will contribute its Bluetooth software stack into an open source, Android project. The company also stated that the software is expected to be included in Android 4.2. Broadcom’s Android software stack assist developers in developing new applications via the Bluetooth wireless standard, and the firm stated that it hopes that this contribution is able to open up development of new Bluetooth applications like heart rate monitors, 3D glasses, remote controls, and sensors.
QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM): Qualcomm Technologies, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc., stated that its networking and connectivity subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, and Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) will work together to accelerate indoor location services for public and private venues using the Cisco wireless infrastructure. Together, the Qualcomm IZat indoor location services platform and the Cisco “Connected Mobile Experience” solution is expected to improve indoor location accuracy, and it will enable service discovery and context awareness in some of the leading retail, travel, and hospitality venues in the world, according to the companies.

Rackspace Hosting, Inc. (NYSE:RAX) added advanced cloud storage features into its distribution of the OpenStack infrastructure management and orchestration software. The new storage features are able to pool storage into volumes that are split across various virtualized drivers on several servers, which possibly saves on spending for dedicated storage gear. Along with the added storage features, Rackspace’s private cloud distribution of Openstack saw improvements to its automation and systems management.
Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ:STX)is to purchase the Solyndra solar panel factory for $90.2 million, after a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge’s approved the sale of the cavernous plant on Thursday. Seagate hopes it will be able to use the plant for part of its Bay Area operations. The data-storage company has not explained the exact nature of the work Seagate hopes it will be able to undertake at the shuttered plan.
VMware, Inc. (NYSE:VMW) and Hitachi (NYSE:HIT) announced that they would expand their strategic partnership to quicken the deployment of their reliable and trusted hybrid cloud solutions. As part of the partnership expansion, Hitachi will join the VMware vCloud Datacenter Services program, and Hitachi intends to provide VMware vCloud Datacenter Services as a part of the Hitachi cloud solution during fiscal year 2013. Hitachi is to open a VMware Competency Center in December 2012 in Yokohama City, Kanagawa. VMware solutions is to be supported as a premium level of Hitachi Support services, and Hitachi has begun the expansion of its enterprise license agreements with VMware solutions worldwide, and they will use them across the company’s global IT systems of the Hitachi Group.
