With the deal, SAP will look to extend its reach in the cloud computing market. SuccessFactors touts this as a safe alternative to outsource data centers and utilizes less hardware. The company has more than 3,500 customers with more than 15 million subscribers across 168 countries.

According to Bloomberg, SuccessFactors has a 2013 forecast of $502 million in revenue, an increase from this year’s $332 million.

The acquisition should heat up competition with Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL) who purchased the cloud competitor, RightNow Technologies Inc., six weeks ago for $1.5 billion.
