Samsung (SSNLF.PK) is clearly not ready to give up its domination of the TV market to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), and is in fact preparing to upstage its rival’s rumored attempts to usher in a new era in the sector. In an announcement ahead of the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung has said it was ready to showcase “true innovation of TV design” and an “unprecedented new TV shape and timeless design” at the event.
Apple has long been rumored to be working on an industry-changing high-definition television set, but the iPhone maker doesn’t appear at the annual CES tradeshow.

The South Korean company recently released a video on its YouTube Page with shots of widescreen televisions and, toward the end, one of a new device that featured a vertical rectangle. Some bloggers have speculated that the design represents a see-through and vertically oriented screen.
Samsung already has a head start on Apple, of course. Having already been in the TV industry for long, the Korean company last year introduced new HDTV sets with voice control and motion detection, as well as a “Smart Evolution” concept that allows select models to be upgraded each year by installing hardware kits to add new features.
