Sprint’s (NYSE:S) highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus sold out of pre-orders last week ahead of the device’s launch on April 22, giving the industry some much-needed good news after Nokia’s (NYSE:NOK) Lumia launch with AT&T (NYSE:T) earlier this month posted mediocre sales figures.
Sprint made available the option to pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Nexus last Monday. Surprisingly, Sprint’s pre-sales launch inventory was depleted by Thursday evening. Sprint did not release the number of Galaxy Nexus handsets that it had allocated for pre-sales. According to a source, pre-sales supply was healthy ahead of the handset’s launch.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus runs on Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android 4.o Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 4.65 Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution. The device sports a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and 32GB of internal storage.
Even though Sprint’s LTE network has not yet launched, the device comes with NFC and 4G LTE connectivity. The Galaxy Nexus is not compatible with Sprint’s current 4G WiMAX network, but this has not slowed down sales of the new device.
