Shares of Boeing (NYSE:BA) edged slightly higher in late afternoon hours. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approved the company’s certification plan for a revamped battery system for the problem-plagued 787 Dreamliner. “We won’t allow the plane to return to service unless we’re satisfied that the new design ensures the safety of the aircraft and its passengers,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement. Shares of competitor Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) were unchanged on the news.
