Praxair’s Voluntary Recall, Biogen IDEC’s Research Consortium: Healthcare Business Update
On Thursday, Praxair (NYSE:PX) reported a voluntary recall that involves Grab ‘n Go Vantage portable oxygen cylinder units, so that a minor modification can be made to the affected units as they come in for routine servicing and filling. The firm has already notified its customers and the FDA.
Biogeb IDEC (NASDAQ:BIIB) has formed a new research group in collaboration with a number of leading academic research centers that will leverage a range of scientific techniques and disciplines, through which to identify novel approaches to treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It is hoped that coordinating research and sharing results through several different disciplines will greatly step up the understanding of the mechanism of this disease. along with the development of new targets and approaches to treatment.

NuVasive (NASDAQ:NUVA) said that Paul Sawin, M.D has performed the first PCM Cervical Disc surgery on a patient, in Orlando on Thursday. Additionally, surgeon proctors who will teach upcoming training courses, have begun scheduling surgeries now that the new device is available. On Thursday, Vivus (NASDAQ:VVUS) announced that Express Scripts (NASDAQ:ESRX) has added Qsymia to its national pharmacy formularies, permitting coverage where available by benefit design of the first new FDA-cleared medication commercially available in the United States in over a decade, for the treatment of chronic weight management.
