A published document confirms that the company is at least considering making a watch-type gadget, although the language used implies that there could be a lot more to it.

Although the documents were filed in August of 2011, recently published images of what can only be described as a wrist-based accessory that were submitted by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) almost assuredly confirm that the company is indeed planning to design and produce an iWatch. The language used to describe the unit state that it can be worn anywhere on the body, though the patent image clearly shows the device wrapped around a wrist.

Less of a watch and more of “slap bracelet,” CNET reports that the language used by Apple to describe the gadget mentions that it uses a bi-stable spring, which would allow the device to conform to the user’s wrist, instead of using a traditional strap and buckle. The glass portion of the unit would also be flexible…

“With a touch screen user input a user can accomplish a number of different tasks including adjusting the order of a current playlist, and reviewing a list of recent phone calls,” the patent said. “A response to a current text message can even be managed given a simple virtual keyboard configuration across the face of the flexible display.”

Knowing Apple’s affinity for being able to smoothly integrate all of one’s iDevices, the watch unit would likely interact with the iPhone, Mac computers, iPads, or wireless-enabled iPods. CNET also reports that the watch would feature either Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity, and feature similar gyroscope capabilities as the iPhones and iPads, so the display will always be facing the user.
