Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) is set to debut its new original series next month called Lilyhammer. It will star The Sopranos actor and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt in a “fish out of water” story that takes place in Norway. The story follows New York mobster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano when he goes into the federal witness protection program. He moves to Lillehammer and calls it “Lilyhammer,” hence the show’s name.

The first season will include eight episodes starting February 6 in the U.S., Canada and Latin America, and will be available for streaming on all mobile devices. It will not, however, be available on DVD by mail.

Netflix also outbid HBO (NYSE:TWX) and AMC (NASDAQ:AMCX) for the rights to House Of Cards, a rendition of the 1990 British miniseries starring Kevin Spacey. It is being produced David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network), and will debut in U.S. and Canada by late 2012. The company also announced that in 2013 they will bring back new episodes of Arrested Development.
