It’s a good time to be a patent lawyer. The University of California and Eolas Technologies are suing Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Disney (NYSE:DIS), and Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) over alleged patent infringements related to interactive technology.

A Facebook spokesman responded by saying the company would fight the lawsuit “vigorously.” A Wal-Mart spokesman seemed more level headed, saying it respects the intellectual property rights of others, and is “looking into the matter.”
This is not the first time the University of California has sued big companies over patent issues. Lawsuits against Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), and Yahoo! (NASDAQ:YHOO) were thrown out by a Texas jury earlier in the year. In 2007, Eolas, on behalf of the university, settled with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) for an undisclosed amount.
It seems unlikely that any of the companies will be seriously affected by the lawsuit.
