So, Nokia (NYSE:NOK) claims that it shipped 1 million Windows (NASDAQ:MSFT) phones for the last quarter. During the same period Microsoft ponied up $250 million as payment to Nokia. You can see where this is going, each phone costs Microsoft $250. It gets better. Nokia’s license fee to Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) for a phone is approximately $20.

Previous reports have noted that the two companies are teaming up to gain market share from Google Android (NASDAQ:GOOG). The new Lumia 900 from Nokia was touted by several reviewers at the recent Consumer Electronics Show.

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is certainly behind, but chief executive Steve Ballmer appears willing to pay to catch up to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG).
