Microsoft Hits 60 Million Licenses of This Ubiquitous Software

Windows 8The official count of licenses sold for Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) new Windows 8 operating system has reached 60 million, Windows Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller reported Tuesday. The figure reflects both upgrades from older versions and sales to computer companies prior to sales to the public, making it a solid start, but nothing too spectacular.

First launched in October, Windows 8 features a graphics-oriented interface similar to Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) popular apps-based interface, but the switch may not be enough. With mobile computing on the rise, PC sales for 2012, to be released in the next few weeks, are expected to mark the first decline in a decade.
