MetroPCS Has Bad News For T-Mobile and 2 Telecom Titans Attracting Interest

MetroPCS Communications (NYSE:PCS): Current price $10.52

T-Mobile USA is ready to slash jobs at its headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, prior to its planned merger with the flat-rate carrier MetroPCS, say multiple reports from The Seattle Times and AllThingsD, which indicated that the job cuts could come this week. The Seattle Times reported that the cuts could cause over 100 layoffs, affecting marketing and other groups. The reports emerge during intensified scrutiny over the deal from MetroPCS investors. Beyond that, a group of 62 House Democrats sent a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, urging that the agency force T-Mobile promise to protect jobs as a condition its approval of the deal, saying that they will push back against “another consolidation of two companies that leads to the reduction of American jobs.”
