Merck Suspends Zilmax Sales in US & Canada and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch
Merck & Co. (NYSE:MRK): Current price $47.60
In a Friday statement, Merck said that it will suspend sales of its livestock-feed supplement Zilmax in the United States and in Canada after cattle taking it had difficulties in walking or standing. The suspension is temporary while Merck plans an evaluation of the drug, according to the statement. Merck is making the move after Tyson Foods Inc. said on August 8 that it was halting its use of Zilmax because of lame livestock found at its facilities. Merck’s animal health unit brought in $3.39 billion in 2012. The company sells veterinary and farm products in over 140 countries.
