Macy’s and Boyd Gaming Share Up Before Earnings

Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M) will unveil its latest earnings on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. The average estimate of analysts is for profit of $1.65 per share, a rise of 3.8% from the company’s actual earnings for the same quarter a year ago. During the past three months, the average estimate has moved up from $1.61. Between one and three months ago, the average estimate moved up. It has risen from $1.62 during the last month. For the year, analysts are projecting net income of $2.82 per share, a rise of 33.6% from last year.

The company has beaten estimates the last four quarters and is coming off a quarter where it topped forecasts by 16 cents, reporting profit of 32 cents per share against a mean estimate of net income of 16 cents per share. On average, analysts predict $8.69 billion in revenue this quarter, a rise of 5.1% from the year-ago quarter. Analysts are forecasting total revenue of $26.39 billion for the year, a rise of 5.6% from last year’s revenue of $25 billion.

Boyd Gaming Corp (NYSE:BYD) will unveil its latest earnings on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. The average estimate of analysts is for a loss of one cent per share, a narrower loss from the year-earlier quarter net loss of 5 cents. The average estimate is the same as three months ago. Between one and three months ago, the average estimate was unchanged. It also has not changed during the last month. For the year, analysts are projecting net income of 3 cents per share, a decline of 75% from last year.

Last quarter, the company topped expectations by 4 cents, coming in at profit of 5 cents per share versus a mean estimate of net income of one cent per share. This followed two straight quarters of missing estimates. Analysts predict a rise of 8.2% in revenue from the year-earlier quarter to $597.2 million.
