Latest IDC Data Released; Samsung Storms Number One Spot

The International Data Corporation, or IDC, has released its latest report for 2012, which deals almost exclusively with smart connected devices — tablets and smartphones, to be specific. Fields for both experienced significant growth in 2012.

The chart below, provided by the IDC, shows a breakdown of the top five companies in the smart connected device vendor category. The numbers here are, to say the least, laudable:

Let’s break the numbers down a little bit.

Together, vendors shipped a total of roughly 1.2 billion devices last year, up from 930 million in 2011. This gives the industry a 29.1 percent positive growth figure for 2012…
