JDS Uniphase (NASDAQ:JDSU) acquires GenComm, a Korean manufacturer of wireless infrastructure testing gear. Though financial details were not disclosed, JDS already has a distribution arrangement with GenComm. The move may be an effort by JDS to grow its telecom testing business in the face of a slow optical component market.

The first gold production has been achieved from its new Pueblo Viejo mine in the Dominican Republic, says Barrick Gold (NYSE:ABX), with commercial production expected in Q4. Barrick will get 100,000 – 125,000 oz. of gold as its share from the mine during 2012, at costs of around $400-500 per oz.
The FDA accepts Hemispherx Biopharma’s (AMEX:HEB) complete response submission for its New Drug Application for Ampligen, a treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; the FDA is likely to take an approval decision by Feb. 2, 2013.
Over 10,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans may be recalled by General Motors (NYSE:GM) to fix a problem relating to fuel pipes that may be corroded due to road salt. Models from 2003 and 2004 in the colder states in the U.S. and Canada figure in the recall.
Discount retailer of apparel and home fashions, TJX Companies (NYSE:TJX) says customer traffic was up across the U.S., Canada and Europe, with Marmaxx revenues growing 8.8 percent year-on-year to $3.976 billion. Comparable stores sales are expected to grow 2-4 percent. The retailer forecasts EPS for FY13 at $2.39-$2.45 against expectations of $2.47.
