For a while now, analysts have been speculating about the possibility of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) releasing a new, lower-end iPhone. The current consensus is that visually, it will resemble the iPhone 5, with a 4-inch screen and slightly thicker dimensions. It also might look more like an iPod classic from the side and a fifth-generation iPod touch from the bottom.
The materials will be significantly downgraded, though, as is to be expected, considering that the phone would likely have a significantly lower price point than other iPhones. It will probably be predominantly plastic, substituting a polycarbonate shell for an aluminum one. However, the screen will still likely be made of Gorilla Glass, according to iLounge.
Mashable reports that the rumored cheaper iPhone would probably cost between $99 and $149.
Above is a mock-up of what the new phone may look like, courtesy of iLounge.
