Ford (NYSE:F) will release the 2014 EcoBoost-powered Tremor sport truck this fall, which is being described as a “street truck” or “sport truck.” The price of the Tremor will be less than the $45,000 price tag for the Ford F-150 Raptor — Ford’s flagship “work truck.”

The idea of the “street truck” began in 2011 when Chrysler, owned by Daimler AG, realized that there was interest in a fancier version of the Ram Tradesman — a work truck. Chrysler then added 20-inch diameter wheels and body-color bumpers to the Ram Tradesman, which was already configured with a Hemi V-8, spray-in bedliner, and tow equipment.

The truck was named the Express and the goal was to keep the truck affordable, priced at a base of $24,945. Ram spokesman Nick Cappa describes the truck as ”Flying off the shelves.” Ford, however, decided to take the Tremor in the other direction and focus upmarket. Regardless, the two trucks appear to be in direct competition with one another.
