As Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) moved to appeal U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh’s decision on its patent infringement case against Samsung (SSNLF.PK),Apple receives the support of an unexpected ally: Nokia (NYSE:NOK).
Samsung had previously appealed Koh’s ruling on the patent case, and it was a major success for the company. The original decision that came in August of last year was to have Samsung pay Apple $1.05 billion in damages, but Samsung’s appeal reduced that by nearly 45 percent.
Samsung believes that it can receive further relief from the remaining charges, but Apple believes that it can still turn things around as it has appealed for a permanent injunction on the Samsung devices found to infringe on Apple’s patents.
That’s where Nokia stepped in from left field…
