Is Honda’s Latest Recall a Problem for These Top Institutional Shareholders?

Honda Motor (NYSE:HMC) is to recall almost 250,000 vehicles worldwide, including some Acura MDX crossover SUVs, because of braking problems, stated the automaker on Thursday. The stability assist system in the vehicles being recalled could potentially malfunction and the brake could operate even if the driver is not pressing the pedal, spokeswoman Tomoko Takemori informed Reuters. Furthermore, the vehicle might brake more strongly than intended when the system malfunctions, she said. Honda is recalling nearly 183,500 vehicles in the United States, and nearly 57,000 vehicles in Japan. Cars in Canada, Mexico, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand will also be recalled. The models that were affected include the Odyssey, Acura RL sedan, Acura MDX, and the Honda Pilot SUV, which were all made between 2004-2005. No accidents or injuries were reported from the problem, stated Takemori. Honda did not reveal the amount that this recall will cost or where it had sourced the problematic parts.
