How Are Facebook’s Woes Hurting Zynga Users?
Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) massively popular online games have been a big revenue generator for the newly public company, but the social network’s recent bad luck seems to have somehow affected those as well. Most Facebook games have lost a significant number of users lately, with Zynga’s (NASDAQ:ZNGA) titles being the worst hit. Since numbers were last released two weeks ago, the San Francicsoc-based gaming company’s massively popular Cityville lost 3.4 million users from its 39.5 million usage mark. Texas HoldEm Poker was down from 36 million to 34.9 million, while Draw Something fell from 33.7 million to currently only 29.5 million. Farmville, Castleville, Hidden Chronicles, and Words with Friends also fell.

Among other game creators, Rovio’s Angry Birds dropped from 23.2 million two weeks ago to 20.9 million, Wooga’s Bubble Witch Saga went down from 21.4 million to 21.1 million, and Diamond Dash fell from 19.1 million to 18.9 million.
The latest news will not help Facebook’s case in front of game developers who have already started moving their titles to smartphones and tablets such as the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad, Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle Fire, and tablets that run on Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android software.
Game creators like Zynga have been very clear in saying that they want to devote their energy on attracting new players rather than retaining older ones, but that increases the pressure to come with new super hits much too regularly.
Meanwhile, Zynga, facing many questions since buying the maker of Draw Something, is ready to announce additional advertising for the game. Zynga has reportedly reached an agreement with DreamWorks Animation (NASDAQ:DWA) that it hopes will generate additional revenue.
